Instagram down: Thousands of users facing issues with social media platform, Meta yet to acknowledge disruption

Instagram down: Meta-owned Instagram is currently facing a major outage globally, including in India. On Downdetector, an online outage monitoring platform, more than 4,000 users in India have reported problems with the social media platform. In the US, around 3,900 reports have been logged in India. Most complaints appear to be related to the mobile app. Data from Downdetector shows that about 61 per cent of users are facing issues with the app, 19 per cent reported problems with the server connection, and the rest 11 percent claimed they were experiencing issues with the website.

According to Downdetector, reports of the outage in India started surfacing around 7:00 AM and has been increasing since then. As expected, frustrated users turned to X (formerly Twitter) to share their experiences. One user posted, “instagram down? I am unable to send reels,” while another sahred, “Is Instagram down or am I just tripping.”

So far, Meta has not issued any official statement related to the outage. For now, users who are experiencing issues with Instagram will just have to wait until Meta identifies the problem and brings the platform back online.

In the US, Facebook is also facing disruptions, with more than 600 reports logged on Downdetector. According to the outage-tracking platform, around 33 per cent of users reported problems with the Facebook app, while 28 per cent experienced issues accessing the website. Another 22 per cent said they were facing problems with the platform’s messaging service.
