Instagram is rolling out a set of new features designed to make the app more social and interactive. With the latest update, Instagram is introducing three new tools: the ability to repost reels and posts, a location-based map that’s similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map, and a new Friends tab in Reels that helps you discover videos your friends are interacting with.
With these features, Instagram is making it easier to stay in sync with your circle. Here’s a look at what’s new:
Instagram now allows you to repost public reels and feed posts to your profile. These reposts will appear in a new Reposts tab and will also be recommended to your followers and friends. To repost, tap the repost icon under a reel or post. You can also add a short note using the thought bubble that pops up. The original creator is always credited, and reposting gives their content a chance to reach more people.

The new Instagram map is a visual way to see where your friends and favourite creators are posting from. You can also choose to share your own last active location. Location sharing is off by default, and you have full control over who can see your location. You can choose to share with all friends, close friends, select individuals, or no one at all.
You can also block location sharing in certain places. The map is located at the top of your DM inbox and is currently rolling out in the US, with global availability coming soon.

The new Friends tab in Reels shows you Reels your friends have interacted with. It’s a fun way to discover content that’s trending among your close circle. You’ll also see suggestions from Blends, a feature that recommends Reels based on shared tastes. Instagram is also adding controls to let you hide your own activity or mute updates from specific friends.
