The budget smartphone segment is getting really competitive with brands now focusing on features that were once reserved for premium devices. Big batteries, fast charging, high refresh rate and even extended software support are no longer exclusive to the flagship devices. The upcoming OnePlus N6 and previously launched Redmi 15 5G can be an example for this transition. While both the devices are said to target users looking for big battery and everyday performance, they may take slightly different approaches when it comes to hardware, software and display. Here is a closer look at how the two smartphones compare based on information available so far.
The OnePlus N6 is scheduled to launch on June 30, 2026, and is expected to compete in the highly contested sub-Rs 20,000 segment. According to leaks, the base 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant may be priced at around Rs 19,999.
The Redmi 15 5G, meanwhile, starts at Rs 20,499 for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model. And if you want more storage and power, you can choose the 8GB RAM and 256GB version, which is priced at Rs 24,499.
The OnePlus N6 is expected to feature a massive 8,000mAh battery based on Silicon-Carbon battery technology. The device will support 45W fast charging, with the company suggesting that a quick five-minute charge could provide approximately 1.7 hours of YouTube playback.
The Redmi 15 5G is not far behind, packing a 7,000mAh battery. Charging speeds are slightly lower at 33W but it even offers 18W wired reverse charging, allowing users to power accessories or other devices directly from the phone.
While OnePlus has not officially confirmed the chipset powering the N6, the company has revealed several hardware details ahead of launch. The phone is expected to ship with Android 16-based OxygenOS 16 and include a large 5,300mm² vapour chamber cooling system designed to maintain stable temperatures during gaming and extended media consumption.
On the other hand, the Redmi 15 5G comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor. The phone runs on HyperOS based on Android and will get two Android versions along with four years of security patches.
If the leaks are believed to be true, the OnePlus N6 comes with a flat display measuring between 6.72 inches and 6.78 inches, however, the final details are yet to be announced. The Amazon teaser also reveals that the device will have a 120Hz refresh rate panel.
The Redmi 15 gets a bigger 6.9-inch Full HD+ display. It comes with a 144Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate making it arguably the best in the segment. The device also gets TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light and Flicker-Free certifications for improved viewing comfort during extended use.
According to the Amazon microsite, the OnePlus N6 will get a 50MP primary camera paired with a 2MP depth sensor. It will also offer a 60FPS video recording along with the dual video recording mode. For selfies, the device may feature a 8MP front camera.
On the other hand, the Redmi 15 comes with a 50MP AI dual-camera system with an f/1.75 aperture. The device offers promising software driven photography additions such as built in custom film filters and AI Sky replacement tools with HyperOS. On the front, users get an 8MP selfie camera.
In terms of design, we do not know much about the OnePlus N6. The reports suggest that the device will have IP64 rating for protection against dust and water splashes. The company has revealed the first of the device on Amazon microsite. The design looks like a signature OnePlus with matte finish, a squarish camera module and two camera lenses.
The Redmi 15 5G comes with premium marble like finish and features IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. It gets a fancy camera island that adds character to the look. The device is available in Midnight Black, Sandy Purple and Frosted White.
While we do not have detailed information about the OnePlus N6, both devices are promising in the segment, particularly for users who value battery life, faster charging, and a positive user experience. Of course, the 8,000 mAh battery with OxygenOS 16 will be an appealing option in the sub-Rs 20,000 range.
On the other hand, with the Redmi 15G, the users will get a larger 6.9-inch display, a 144Hz refresh rate, reverse charging support, and a more established hardware package. Stay tuned to Digit, as we will publish a detailed review next week.
