How many times have you played a game so gorgeous that you can’t help but wish to play it in a theatre? If your answer here was ‘way too many times’, you would be over the moon to get to know about Asus ROG’s latest product. As part of celebrating its 20th anniversary, ROG decided to unveil a couple of products at Taipei, Taiwan, during Computex 2026. And one of these puts a giant screen right in front of your eyes, no matter what game you’re playing. I’m talking about the ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle.
At first glance, it looks like another premium gaming handheld. But when you put on the glasses, the magic begins.

Before talking about the glasses, it is worth appreciating how much effort Asus has put into the handheld itself.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle feels like a celebration of everything the company has learned from building gaming devices over the last two decades. The translucent black finish gives the device a distinctive look, while the gold accents underneath make it feel far more special than a standard gaming handheld. It is one of those products that immediately catches your eye the moment you walk past it on a show floor.
Under the hood, the handheld is powered by AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor and paired with a new 7.4-inch OLED display running at 120Hz. The screen looks fantastic in person, delivering vibrant colours, deep blacks, and the kind of smoothness gamers have come to expect from premium gaming hardware.
Asus has also refined the controls with new TMR joysticks and a redesigned D-pad, while AI-powered features like Auto SR are designed to help improve performance when gaming on the move. Taken together, the package already feels like a strong contender in the increasingly crowded handheld gaming market.
But after spending time with the device, I realised ASUS wasn’t really trying to impress me with the handheld. It was trying to impress me with what came inside the box alongside it.
The moment I put on the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, I understood why ASUS was making such a big deal about them.
Instead of looking at a small 7.4-inch display, it suddenly felt like I was staring at a giant cinema-sized screen floating directly in front of me. The closest comparison I can think of is sitting in front of an IMAX screen, except this one travels with you wherever you go.
And as far as the image quality is concerned, there appeared to be 0 compromises. The games looked sharp, colours appeared vibrant, and everything felt ultra polished. Overall, the glasses created such a large and immersive virtual display that it was easy to forget that I was technically gaming on a portable device.
And that is exactly what makes this product stand out in a crowd. Because for years, handheld gaming has always involved a compromise. You gain portability, but you lose the scale and immersion that comes with playing on a large television or gaming monitor. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle attempts to remove that compromise entirely by giving players both.
Now of course, AR glasses are still a relatively new category, and not everyone will want to wear them for extended gaming sessions. But as far as my experience is concerned, the glasses were quite lightweight and comfortable for even longer gameplay sessions.
Now we all know that the handheld gaming market is becoming competitive with companies like Valve, Lenovo, MSI, Acer, and ASUS all competing for attention. In such an environment, simply launching another powerful handheld is no longer enough.
And Asus seems to know that which is why the ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle feels much more ambitious. Instead of asking how to make handheld gaming faster, the company is asking how to make it feel bigger. And after trying it for myself, I think they might be onto something.
