Dreame X60 Ultra Complete review: A premium, capable vacuum cleaner, but still a robot

In my first impressions, I covered the Dreame X60 Ultra Complete’s design, setup, camera features, and initial cleaning experience. And while I had mostly only good things to say about this vacuum cleaner, having spent close to a month with it, I now have a better understanding of its cleaning capabilities, ease of use, and maintenance requirements. Without spoiling the verdict, let me tell you the X60 Ultra Complete is an impressive piece of home cleaning technology. But at Rs 1,34,999, it also comes with expectations that go beyond picking up dust. A robot vacuum cleaner of its ilk is only as good as its ability to take over everyday cleaning without demanding too much attention in return. Powerful suction and intelligent navigation are useful, but the real test is whether the machine can consistently clean your home, manage its own maintenance, and make your daily routine easier.

Let’s find out if the Dreame machine can do all of these and how.

Great at daily cleaning with some intervention

The Dreame X60 Ultra Complete claims a suction power of 35,000Pa, which is an impressive figure and higher than what most robot vacuum cleaners offer. It also features the HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush 2.0, comprising two counter-rotating rubber rollers designed to collect dirt and hair while reducing tangling.

In my home, which has tiled flooring and quite a bit of furniture, the robot has been dependable at picking up everyday dust, loose dirt, crumbs and hair. It also does a good job of cleaning edges and corners along walls, door hinges, and the legs of beds and sofas, thanks to its extending side brush.

However, it is important to remember that this is still a machine, and it has its limitations. When it encounters an obstacle, it tries to navigate around it and continue cleaning. But there are areas it simply cannot reach or clean effectively, particularly when the available space is restricted. There have also been instances where it has not picked up strands of hair particularly well, and I have also noticed hair follicles stuck around the brush rollers. Sometimes certain stubborn debris can require attention from your end.

The good thing is that the robot can focus on a particular area and make repeated passes over it. You just have to mark those particular zones and the X60 Ultra Complete’s back-and-forth cleaning pattern, combined with the high suction power, does a better job of removing stubborn dirt when given another opportunity. However, these instances are a reminder that it cannot completely replace manual intervention. You may not need to step in regularly, but you will occasionally have to.

I was also not particularly impressed with its carpet cleaning performance. Lightweight fabric carpets can get pulled towards the suction inlet, which may put their fibres under stress. This is something to consider if your home has delicate or loosely woven carpets.

All in all, I would value the X60 Ultra Complete more for its ability to keep tiled floors clean during regular cleaning sessions than for its claimed 35,000Pa suction power. It can reliably handle everyday cleaning, but occasionally it would need some human assistance.

Effective mopping for a more complete clean

The X60 Ultra Complete uses two rotating mop pads rather than a stationary wet cloth. Dreame claims that these pads rotate at up to 230RPM and apply 15N of downward pressure. The system also uses heated water, with the mop pad temperature reaching a claimed 40 degrees Celsius.

I liked how effectively it handled everyday cleaning tasks, including footprints, surface grime, spills and general marks on the floor. The rotating pads provide a scrubbing action rather than simply wiping the surface, while the extending mop arm helps it reach closer to walls, edges and furniture legs.

However, tougher, dried-on stains can still require additional cleaning rounds or targeted zone cleaning. You may have to send the robot back to a particular area to get the desired results. Also, the floor can remain slightly damp after a mopping session. This is not necessarily a problem, but it is worth considering when adjusting the water settings and scheduling cleaning sessions, particularly in homes with polished flooring, elderly residents or young children.

Despite these minor limitations, I appreciate having the mopping feature. It complements the vacuuming performance and makes everyday floor maintenance very easy.

Convenient maintenance is why you pay a premium

The multifunctional docking station not only looks premium but also houses everything the robot needs for cleaning and self-maintenance.

Once a cleaning session is complete, the robot returns to the dock to empty its dustbin, wash its mop pads, dry them and replenish its water supply. Dreame claims that the station uses water heated to 100 degrees Celsius to wash the mop pads, helping remove accumulated dirt and grease. It then uses hot air to dry the pads, reducing moisture build-up and the chances of unpleasant odours developing in the robot or docking station.

Besides separate clean and dirty water tanks, the dock also has an automatic detergent dispensing system. One of the two solution compartments is specifically meant for pet odour cleanser. This is a thoughtful addition, particularly for households with pets, and adds to the overall convenience.

However, the docking station does not make maintenance completely hands-free. After cleaning my approximately 420 sq ft home, I found myself refilling the clean water tank and emptying the dirty water tank every alternate day. You also need to replace the dust bag when required and periodically clean the washboard and other parts of the station. The good thing is that the robot notifies you whenever manual intervention is required.

There are recurring costs to consider, too. Cleaning solutions, dust bags, filters and replacement brushes add to the overall cost of ownership. Dreame does include spare consumables in the box, which helps reduce the need for immediate replacements. However, you will eventually have to buy these accessories again.

Smart navigation and usability

The X60 Ultra Complete uses AI cameras, structured light sensors, and other navigation systems to identify objects and plan its cleaning route. Dreame claims that its system can recognise more than 280 types of household objects.

In my experience, obstacle avoidance should be considered a convenience feature rather than a reason to leave everything on the floor. Small objects, loose wires, and certain household items can still pose problems for robot vacuum cleaners. I suggest you clear such objects before cleaning for the robot to do its job well.

The Dreamehome app offers plenty of customisation options too, including room-wise cleaning, scheduling and no-go zones. However, its many features and settings can make the interface feel overwhelming initially.

The camera is useful for checking areas where the robot goes, and I appreciate that the robot notifies you whenever the camera is active. This is reassuring from a privacy standpoint.

The robot also supports automatic recharging and resuming. This is particularly useful because a whole-home cleaning session can take several hours, depending on the floor area and cleaning settings. The robot does not simply stop working when its charge becomes low. It returns to the docking station and can continue an unfinished cleaning task after recharging.

Fine battery life and charging experience

The X60 Ultra Complete packs a 6,400mAh battery. To test its battery endurance, I recorded one whole-home cleaning session. My home size is about 420 square feet.

  • I started cleaning at 10:25 AM, with 99% battery remaining.
  • By 2:10 PM, the battery had dropped to 10%, and the robot returned to its docking station. Once it reaches this limit, it doesn’t come out of the dock. It doesn’t fully drain to 0%, that’s what I mean to say.
  • Anyways, that is approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes of cleaning, during which it consumed around 89% of the battery.
  • And for cleaning my full house in one go, it takes about 1 hour, and just my room of around 87 sq ft, it takes about 15 minutes.

I then monitored its charging.

  • It took another 2 hours and 10 minutes, from 2:10 PM to 4:20 PM, to go from 10% to a full charge.

Your results will vary depending on your home and cleaning settings. Still, you should get a useful indication of the time involved when the robot has to cover an entire home.

The automatic recharge-and-resume feature makes this less inconvenient. However, buyers should remember that a large home may require several hours to clean, including the time spent recharging.

Should you buy Dreame X60 Ultra Complete?

The Dreame X60 Ultra Complete brings together powerful vacuuming, effective mopping, intelligent navigation and an extensive self-maintenance system. Having used it for close to a month, I can say that it does a good job of reducing the time and effort involved in everyday floor cleaning.

In my first impressions, I mentioned how my mother felt the X60 cleaned better than humans. Having spent more time with it, I can see where she was coming from. The robot is more disciplined with routine cleaning. It follows schedules, does not get tired or skip a cleaning session, and can return to unfinished areas after charging. It also takes care of much of its own maintenance.

However, that does not mean it cleans better than a human in every situation. It can miss hair and stubborn debris, struggle with certain obstacles and leave areas that it cannot access. You also need to refill its water tanks, empty the dirty water and maintain the docking station. So, while it can take over much of the repetitive cleaning, some human intervention is still necessary.

At Rs 1,34,999, the X60 Ultra Complete is an expensive appliance. And you are paying a premium for consistent cleaning while reducing the human effort involved. But besides the asking price, you also need to account for recurring consumable costs and the space required for its docking station.

So, I would recommend it to households that can afford the upfront price and ongoing maintenance costs, prioritise convenience, have largely hard flooring and want to automate regular vacuuming and mopping. However, those with delicate fabric carpets, limited clearance under furniture or expectations of completely hands-free cleaning should consider its limitations.

Ultimately, the Dreame X60 Ultra Complete is a capable premium robot vacuum and mop. It lacks human judgement, but it is more than capable of taking over repetitive daily cleaning and making floor maintenance considerably easier.
