Nothing may launch smart glasses in 2027: What we know so far

HIGHLIGHTS

Nothing smart glasses will reportedly have a camera, mic and speaker setup.

AI processing may rely on a paired smartphone and cloud, not on-device hardware.

Its design is expected to follow Nothing's signature transparent, LED-led approach.

After smartphones, smartwatches and audio products, Nothing may now be working on smart glasses. As per a Bloomberg report, the company could launch its first smart glasses pair in the first half of 2027. This one could be more mainstream with a focus on AI features compared to the bulky mixed reality headsets. So, it will have to be lightweight, and the AI tasks may be handled via a connected phone or cloud. Affordability will also be crucial for mainstream adoption. Here’s what we know:

Nothing smart glasses: Details we have

Bloomberg says that Nothing’s first smart glasses could include cameras, microphones and speakers. So, it could be used to capture photos or videos, record voices, and play back audio. As mentioned in the intro, to ensure their light build, Notjong could offload the processing to a paired smartphone or cloud solution.

This approach, if realised, could be similar to what Meta has done with its Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses, which are an everyday wearable rather than immersive high-end augmented reality.

As Nothing’s products are generally more chic and lifestyle-oriented, we expect the company’s design language to carry over to these smart glasses too. This could mean transparent or LED-based visual elements.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei has already outlined a broader multi-device strategy, extending beyond smartphones into categories like wearables, AI hardware and even more experimental areas such as EVs and robotics. Smart glasses could very well be part of this planning.

So, if it turns true, Nothing could join the bandwagon which already includes Meta, Apple, etc., exploring similar products. Competition is better for the maturity of the market, and we users get more options.

Let’s see how Nothing executes this. Aspects like stable connectivity, latency, AI features, and battery life would matter. Its pricing and privacy concerns around cameras and microphones will also be a factor. Let’s see.
