Intel has launched the Intel MICA bracelet for $495. The bracelet has a 1.6 inch OLED screen and comes with an AT&T Sim card, complete with data and SMS messages, paid for two years.
The wearable was launched in a joint presentation by computing giant Intel and New York-based fashion retailer Opening Ceremony. This is Intel's first wearable designed with fashion as a top priority. Short for “My Intelligent Communication Accessory,” the bracelet has a 1.6 inch OLED curved sapphire display, with a snake skin body laden with semi-precious stones and pearls. Apart from this the device comes with an inbuilt SIM card, 3G radio, a GPS chip, and integration with TomTom and Yelp.
The device allows you to set a VIP contacts list from which you will get push notifications to the bracelet. It also features remote-locking and location tracking. MICA has an anticipated battery life of two days and can be recharged wirelessly with the Intel Charging Bowl announced earlier this year. The wearable will be available in December at Barney's and Opening ceremony's online and retail stores.
"We really approached this first and foremost about why would a woman want to wear this everyday, and how can it be incorporated into her wardrobe," Humberto Leon, creative director at Opening Ceremony, stated in an interview.
Apart with partnering up with Opening ceremonies, Intel has also acquired smartwatch maker Basis and teamed up with Fossil Group to develop more high tech accessories.
