Google is holding The Android Show: XR Edition on December 8 to reveal new updates for Android XR, the company’s platform for headsets and smart glasses. The session will cover how Android XR is evolving after debuting on the Samsung Galaxy XR headset in October, and why Google sees this category as a key part of its long-term device ecosystem. So, this event could be relevant for Galaxy XR users, Android XR or general XR enthusiasts, developers building for the platform and anyone tracking the next wave of mixed reality devices.
The Android Show XR edition is set to take place on December 8 at 10 AM PT (or 11:30 PM IST).
A teaser page on android.com confirms the 30-minute livestream and invites users to set reminders. Google’s description says viewers will ‘learn about all things XR across glasses, headsets and everything in between,’ with a specific push on how Gemini can offer more conversational and contextual assistance in XR.
The YouTube stream link is already live. A short preview video shows Android Bots wearing XR headsets and glasses, along with a countdown timer for ‘exciting XR updates.’ Google is also promoting Samsung’s Galaxy XR on the event page, highlighting currently available apps and experiences.
Google is likely to outline new software features for Android XR headsets. The Galaxy XR’s current software is mostly unchanged from the experience Google first demonstrated in December 2024, so an update cycle is due. The company may also show early work from other partners, including XREAL’s Project Aura, which is expected next year.
Google has also been working with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on XR eyewear. Samsung previously confirmed it will manufacture Android XR glasses with both brands in collaboration with Google. With that in mind, the event could include a preview of Samsung’s first Android XR glasses, which are rumoured for 2026. Early teasers hint at a glasses-style device with an outward camera, though the first model is not expected to include a display.
More Gemini features are also likely. Gemini Live on Android XR could expand to offer deeper computer-like functions, which many early users have been waiting for.
Android XR was announced last December and became official with the launch of the Galaxy XR in October. Google showed unbranded XR prototypes at Google I/O 2025, but many features have yet to reach consumer hardware. The December 8 event is positioned as the first major follow-up to that rollout.
Let’s see.
