Apple Watch has once again saved a life and this time it was of an athlete. In a video shared by Apple on its official channels, the Watch helped a triathlon runner discover a heart condition he did not know he had. Connor, who was training for a triathlon, noticed that his heart rate was unusually high during exercise and used the smartwatch’s built-in ECG feature to investigate.
When he got the reading, it indicated signs of atrial fibrillation, leading him to seek medical advice. Further testing revealed a congenital heart condition that eventually required open-heart surgery. Apple has now shared Connor’s experience in a new video on its YouTube channel as part of its series showcasing the health and safety features of the Apple Watch.

As per Apple’s account, Connor began noticing that his fitness was declining despite maintaining his training routine. During one event, his heart rate reportedly reached around 219 beats per minute, prompting him to check his heart activity using the ECG app on his Apple Watch.
The ECG reading showed signs that were consistent with atrial fibrillation, after which Connor decided to consult a doctor. Medical examinations subsequently uncovered a congenital heart condition that had previously gone undiagnosed. After that Connor underwent open-heart surgery to treat the condition. Apple says he has since recovered and described the improvement in his health as feeling like having a new heart.
This is not the first time Apple has shared such an incident on its YouTube or social media channels. Apple has been sharing such incidents to show useful features like ECG can help save the life of an user. The brand has used personal stories to demonstrate the health capabilities.
