Apple put its “too cool to be true” Vision Pro out on sale in February 2024. The product went viral in the true sense. It was all the rage on Instagram, everyone was flexing and talking about it. But I guess those were the only 5 seconds of fame that the Vision Pro got. Reports suggest that Apple is cutting the shipment of its XR headsets for the rest of the year. Why is that happening? Read along to find out.

Why is Apple cutting down Vision Pro production?

Media reports suggest that Apple did not get the response that it was anticipating with the product. It did blow over social media, but the demand wasn’t that much. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple had decided to cut down on orders for the device even before the company launched it outside the States. He further shares that previously there was a market consensus that about 7,00,000 to 8,00,000 units of the Vision Pro will be sold. But now Apple expects that it will only sell around 400,000 to 450,000.

Why is it facing low demand?

Initially, Apple did see excitement about its product, but it couldn’t retain its customers. The main reason behind this low demand is said to be the price point. The product was priced at $3,500, which is quite expensive for most. Also, it was a pretty new product to experiment with, so chances were already pretty slim. However, the failure of the Vision Pro will have an impact on the entire market as Apple is the trendsetter in the industry.

Looking at the failure of the Vision Pro headset, Apple may now push the timeline for a cheaper version of the same even further. There are chances that Apple can do away with it even further.
