TCL has teased the launch of its flagship SQD Mini LED TVs in India via its official X handle. The company has not confirmed the launch date yet, but the teaser suggests an imminent rollout in 2026. The new display technology, which was unveiled at CES 2026 in January, is expected to bring improvements in brightness, colour precision, and contrast over existing Mini LED TVs. This should position TCL more aggressively in the premium TV segment in our country.
Based on TCL’s global announcements and industry chatter, we gather that SQD Mini LED is an evolution of existing Mini LED technology.

SQD Mini LED uses blue LEDs in the Mini LED backlight setup, but the quantum dot layer is new with TCL CSOT’s UltraColor Filter. TCL claims 33% better colour gamut performance and a 69% improvement in quantum dot accuracy. The top-rung X11L TV with SQD Mini LED boasts 100% BT.2020 coverage.
As for luminance, the 98-inch model of this TV claims up to 10,000 nits peak brightness with over 20,000 dimming zones. Those figures suggest the X11L should have great control over contrast.
SQD Mini LED’s main rival technology this year is RGB Mini LED, which uses a multi-coloured backlight (Red, Green, Blue). This removes the need for colour filters and is said to bring out a high colour accuracy and efficiency.
In other markets, TCL is known to be releasing TVs with both these technologies. But the flagship model has SQD Mini LED. The company must be aiming to take on OLED and Mini LED TVs in the premium space with this tech.
So, if you are planning to buy a premium TV in 2026, it may be worth waiting for TCL’s SQD Mini LED lineup for its promises on brightness, contrast, and HDR performance.
When we eventually get to test TVs with both these tech, we will be checking the aforementioned claims. Moreover, details like specifications, sizes, and pricing for India are expected closer to the official launch announcement. So, stay tuned.
