Amazon has started rolling out a redesigned Fire TV mobile app for Android and iOS, expanding the experience beyond basic remote control functions. The update introduces a new UI that mirrors the recently redesigned Fire TV interface, with five navigation tabs and new features for browsing content, managing watchlists, and launching playback directly from a smartphone. The update (version 4.0.1), which was first released in the US last month, is now available in markets like India, the UK, Canada, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, and Spain.
The redesigned Fire TV mobile app introduces a navigation layout with five tabs placed at the bottom of the screen. These include Remote, Home, Search, Watchlist, and Account.
The update significantly expands the role of the Fire TV mobile app. Previously, the app functioned mainly as a backup remote control. With the new features, it becomes a discovery and control hub that can be used even when the television is not actively in use.
Google offers similar functionality through its Google TV mobile app, where users can search content and add titles to a watchlist that appears on their television.
By bringing comparable features to the Fire TV mobile app, Amazon is making its streaming ecosystem more competitive.
Users will need to update the Fire TV app to the latest version through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to access the redesigned interface and new features.
