Samsung has announced the launch of Perplexity TV App, a Generative AI-powered answer engine for its 2025 smart TVs. This marks the first-ever appearance of Perplexity AI on a TV platform. The app integrates with Samsung’s Vision AI Companion platform to help users find answers and discover new information easily. The user need not look up Perplexity on another device. And by offering Perplexity’s real-time, source-backed answers, Samsung wants to ‘redefine’ user interaction with TVs.
Step 1: Open the Perplexity TV App from the Apps tab or via the Vision AI Companion using the AI button.
Step 2: Read and accept the app’s terms and conditions, and allow microphone access if you plan to use voice.
Step 3: Choose input method: You can use the remote’s voice button, the on-screen keyboard, or a connected USB keyboard to enter queries.
Step 4: Now, speak or say a question naturally or type your query. For example: ‘recommend halloween films’ or ‘who directed the last Avengers movie?’
Perplexity will search credible sources and compiles an answer in real time. Then it presents answers as glanceable cards optimised for TV screens, with summaries, sources, and related suggestions.
You can follow up or refine by selecting suggested follow-up questions on screen, ask another question, or request more detail for deeper research.
Perplexity also lets you tap links, open suggested apps or streaming services when available, or save items for later if the app supports it.
Just so you know, the Perplexity app requires an internet connection for real-time answers, so check your network if responses are slow or missing.
Perplexity’s Vice President of Business, Ryan Foutty, noted that ‘curiosity can strike at any time,’ adding that the company’s mission is to bridge the gap between traditional search and modern AI interfaces.
The Perplexity TV App is now available on all 2025 Samsung smart TVs. It will also roll out to 2023 and 2024 Samsung TV models via a software update later this year.
As part of the launch offer, users can claim a complimentary 12-month Perplexity Pro subscription by scanning the QR code displayed in the TV app.
So, for Samsung TV owners, their TVs can now do more than stream content. But for it to work, users will need to accept microphone access for voice commands. And as it is true with all Gen AI tools, the user must be wary of authenticity of the information, too. In time, we will know how this experience turns out.
