LG Electronics has launched the LG Magnit Active Micro LED, a 136-inch 4K LCD TV with Active Micro LED backlight technology. This model is part of LG’s premium Magnit lineup and is said to offer ‘luxury home cinema’ display for high-end consumers. The backlight technology offers individual pixel-level control, enabling ultra-high contrast ratio and promises deeper blacks, more accurate colours and higher brightness than conventional LED TVs. You also get Dolby Vision, LG’s proprietary AI processing, and a 100W sound system. Here are the complete details:

Global availability

The LG Magnit Active Micro LED will be available in South Korea from today, i.e., 21 October, with availability set to expand to select global markets including North America.

LG has not announced pricing yet, but given its positioning, it is expected to be a luxury-grade product aimed at premium home cinema setups. This could take on Sony’s Crystal LED C-series and Samsung’s The Wall Micro LED TVs.

Specifications

The display features a 136-inch 4K (3,840 x 2,160) Micro LED panel using self-emissive pixels. Each pixel generates its own light, eliminating the need for backlighting and improving contrast and detail. The Active Matrix driver allows precise control over each pixel, enhancing motion handling and overall picture fidelity.

The panel offers a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 144Hz refresh rate, and support for Dolby Vision HDR. It is powered by LG’s 6th gen α9 AI Processor, which is said to analyse every scene for creator’s intent. The processor also refines skin/facial tones, reduces noise and enhances detail, which should benefit both films and sports content.

Audio comes through integrated 4.2-channel speakers rated at 100W output with eARC support for higher-quality connected sound systems. LG also mentions the screen is flicker-free and with the proprietary surface treatment, there should be reduced glare and eye strain. Connectivity options include wireless casting via AirPlay 2 and Miracast, and smart TV functionality through LG’s webOS platform. This software allows streaming through LG Channels or access LG Gallery+ to display digital art or visual themes.

In real-world use, LG claims the display can deliver consistent colour accuracy across wide viewing angles, even at ultra-large screen sizes. This is verified by TuV Rheinland’s Color Consistency Wide Viewing certification. The TV also meets safety and flammability standards suitable for residential environments.

So, the main advancement lies in the Active Matrix control system, which replaces traditional Passive Matrix setups. This allows precise per-pixel management for higher contrast, smoother gradients and more accurate rendering, which should be particularly visible in darker scenes and HDR playback. The integration of LG’s latest α9 AI Processor also marks a step up in image processing power, bringing adaptive tone mapping and scene by scene enhancements similar to the company’s 2025 OLED lineup.

Pricing will likely place it well above premium OLED or QLED models, meaning it will cater to a niche audience focused on uncompromising visual fidelity rather than affordability. Overall, the Magnit Active Micro LED showcases LG’s advancement in next-gen TV displays.
