Apple has updated the Apple TV app on Android to add Google Cast support, addressing one of the most notable omissions since the app launched earlier this year. The update allows Android phone and tablet users to cast Apple TV content directly to compatible TVs and streaming devices, bringing feature parity closer to the iOS experience and making the app more practical for everyday use. Let’s see how to access and use this feature.
Step 1: Download/update the Apple TV app for Android from the Google Play Store. The feature is available on the latest version, viz., 2.2.0.
Step 2: After updating the app, a Google Cast icon appears at the top right, positioned to the left of the user profile avatar. Tapping the icon opens a ‘Cast To’ bottom sheet, styled to match Apple TV’s existing design language.
Step 3: The Cast button is also available in the full-screen video player, located next to the mute control
Step 4: Once casting begins, the app switches to a mini player showing playback status, connected device details and the timeline
In the cast screen, playback controls include play, pause and 10-second rewind buttons. Tapping the mini player opens a full-screen portrait interface with large rewind, forward and play controls, along with a scrubber, audio options and subtitles. The background artwork displays the show or movie poster, with a swipe-down gesture to return to the home screen.

When the Apple TV app arrived on Android earlier this year, the absence of Google Cast support stood out, especially for users who rely on Chromecast or Google Cast-enabled TVs and dongles. Apple has since added smaller quality-of-life features, such as new episode notifications, but casting remained a major gap until now. Well, it is finally here.
Google Cast support significantly improves how Apple TV fits into an existing TV and streaming setup. Instead of relying on workarounds or separate devices, users can now start playback on their phone or tablet and move it to the big screen with minimal friction. It also makes Apple TV+ more competitive on Android, where many rival streaming apps have long supported Cast by default. It is also interesting that Apple added the feature when Netflix removed it.
Alongside Google Cast support, Apple has also slightly refined the app’s homescreen icon, making the logo appear smaller within its circular frame.
