Yu Yunique launched, 4G support at Rs. 4,999

The Yu Yunique is the first phone from Yu to come with stock Android, instead of Cyanogen; Yu has allowed users to install the OS without voiding the warranty.

Yu has launched the Yu Yunique today. The phone is launched at a price of Rs. 4,999, and will be be sold using a flash-sale model on Snapdeal. Registrations for the sale have started at 6 pm today, and it will go on sale on September 12. 

The Yu Yunique comes with a 4.7-inch 720p display along with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The handset has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB. One of the highlight notes of the Yunique is that it is 4G-compliant, at a sub-5k price bracket. Yu phones have always come with Cyanogen OS, but this one is different. The smartphone comes with stock Android v5.1.1. OS. However, Yu has said that anyone can root the phone and install Cyanogen OS 12.1 without making the warranty void. The phone will be powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 CPU. At the back there is an 8MP Omnivision f/2.0 camera, while in the front there is a 2MP camera with an 83-degree field of view. It will also have a 2000mAh non-removable battery. Customers can also get the phone with two back covers, at a price of Rs. 5,499. 

The Yu Yunique is now the cheapest phone on offer by Yu. Before this, the Yu Yuphoria was the cheapest handset sold by the company, at Rs 6,999.

Yesterday, two new phones from Yu were leaked, named the Yu5050 and Yu4711. As per the specifications that were leaked on Geekbench, the Yu5050 has an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor along with a 5.2-inch 1080p display and 4GB of RAM. The specifications of the Yu4711 match those of the Yu Yunique, but no mention was made of the Yu5050 at the launch event.
