Apple is reportedly working on a new feature for Siri that could allow you to control your iPhone entirely with your voice. According to Bloomberg, the feature will be built on an upgraded version of App Intents, which will let Siri operate apps directly just like a human user.
With this update, you could ask Siri to find a photo, edit it and send it without touching your phone. It could also let you comment on Instagram posts, shop online, add items to your cart, or even log into services hands-free. The goal is to make Siri a voice-first controller for iPhone apps.
This technology is also expected to power Apple’s rumoured home devices, including a smart display which is likely planned for next year and a tabletop home robot.

Inside Apple, testing and improving this capability has become a top priority for the company’s global data operations team, according to the report. Engineers are said to be working to ensure the upgraded Siri can work reliably with many apps. But they are facing challenges, particularly in making the system accurate enough for sensitive areas like health and banking.
When Siri gets things wrong today, it is mostly an inconvenience, such as pulling up the wrong weather report. But a future Siri that can control your apps will need far greater accuracy to avoid serious errors. To address this, Apple plans to roll out the feature gradually. Testing is already happening with select third-party apps, including Uber, Threads, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp and some games, along with Apple’s own apps.
