Xiaomi’s “Desh Ka Smartphone”, the Redmi 5A is going up for sale today exclusively via Mi.com and Flipkart. The sale will start at 12PM and both the 2GB and 3GB RAM variants of the smartphone will be available for purchase. The 2GB RAM/16GB ROM variant of the smartphone is priced at Rs 5,999, however, for the first 5 million customers, Xiaomi is offering a discount of Rs 1,000 on the device which brings down the effective price to Rs 4,999. The 3GB RAM/32GB ROM variant of the smartphone is priced at Rs 6,999.
Apart from Xiaomi’s discount, Flipkart is offering a no-cost EMI option on the smartphone. The Redmi 5A’s base variant can be purchased at a no cost EMIs starting from Rs 1,667 per month, whereas the No Cost EMIs for the 3GB RAM variant starts from Rs 2,333 per month. Users will get extra 5 percent off on purchasing the smartphone using an Axis Bank Buzz Credit Card.
As a partner offer, Reliance Jio is offering Rs 1000 cashback on the Redmi 5A. This further brings down the price of the smartphone down to Rs 3,999 and 5,999 for the 2GB and 3GB RAM variants respectively. However, to avail the cashback, Jio customers need to recharge their connection with Rs 199 consecutively for the next 12 months. The cashback will be credited in the form of 10 coupons, each worth Rs 100. The first recharge needs be performed between December 5 to November 30, 2018 and the offer is valid on both Flipkart and mi.com.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 platform clocked at 1.4 GHz. It sports a 5-inch HD display with a 1280 x 720p resolution and runs on MIUI 9 atop Android 7.1 Nougat. The smartphone packs a 3000mAh battery which the company claims can last up to 8 days on standby.
In terms of connectivity, the Redmi 5A supports Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, Wi-Fi, and 4G LTE. The onboard storage also be be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card and is a dual-SIM device with a separate third slot for a microSD card. The device was launched in Elegant Gold, Rose Gold and Dark Grey colour models, however, Flipkart is currently offering only the Gold and Grey colour variants of the smartphone.
