Lei Jun also said that the company is not aiming to be the first launch a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 powered smartphone

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will focus more on the user experience rather than being the first to launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, according to Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun. He said on the company's forums to let people know they Xiaomi is not going to rush the Mi 5 to match the first wave of smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC. He said that the aim is to “put greater importance on the user experience and mass production, rather than being first.” This could mean that the company is still in the process of fine-tuning the phone. It could also mean that Xiaomi is waiting for the production speed of Snapdragon 820 chipsets to increase.

This also matches another rumor which states that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be the first smartphone to be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC. Samsung is also tipped to have the exclusive rights on the SoC till April 2016. Samsung may launch two variants of the Galaxy S7, one powered by the Snapdragon 820 and the other with the Exynos 8890.

Yesterday, the Xiaomi Mi 5 was briefly listed on Oppomart. According to the listing, the phone will come with a 5.5-inch 2K display and 4GB of RAM. It may have a 20MP rear camera and a 8MP front camera. The listing also showed the phone may be available in three storage variants, 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB. A few days ago, the front panel of the Xiaomi Mi 5 was supposedly leaked. The panel in the image shows a cutout at the bottom of the phone where the physical home button may be located. It is possible that this button will incorporate a fingerprint sensor as otherwise, Xiaomi would have stuck with capacitive buttons. The leaked image of the panel matched up with the render that was also leaked and showed the physical home button and rounded corners.
