Samsung may have launched the Galaxy S8 just a new weeks back, but it seems like the company may already have started work on its successor. According to Korean website, The Bell, the company has begun development on next year’s flagship smartphone under the codename, Star, while the larger variant is codenamed Star 2. The report also notes that development on the device has started three to four months in advance.
Additional details about the device is not yet known, and the report does mention that the phone is still in early stages of development and may feature an improved version of the Infinity display currently being used in the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus.
Last month, it was reported that Samsung and Qualcomm may have started work on the chipset that would power the Galaxy S9. The chipset, dubbed Snapdragon 845, is expected to sport a 7nm fabrication process and might be manufactured by Samsung or TSMC. Both companies are believed to be working on the production of 7nm chipsets and last year, TSMC Chairman, Morris Chang said that the company would prevail over Samsung due to its technological advantage. The report noted that TSMC was scheduled to move to the 7nm process technology to risk production phase in 2017, followed by volume production in 2018.
