Leakster, MMDDJ posted a tweet which states that Samsung maybe planning to launch a gaming centric device. It also suggests that Samsung's foldable phone will not sport the 'Galaxy X' moniker.

After Razer, Xiaomi and Asus, it seems like Samsung may also be planning to take a bite of the gaming smartphone market. Leakster, MMDDJ posted a tweet which states that the South Korean company may be planning to launch a gaming centric smartphone. However, details about the smartphone are not yet known.

Since it is tipped to be a gaming smartphone, it will most likely come with a flagship grade chipset. This would either be a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC or Samsung’s own Exynos chipset. The phone might also come with other features aimed at gamers such as a display with a high refresh rate or an improved cooling system.

It really looks like gaming smartphones are the next big thing and chipset manufacturers are starting to focus on improving GPU performance in mobile chipsets. Huawei and Honor have already announced their GPU Turbo technology which is said to improve chipset performance in their Kirin lineup. Qualcomm is also expected to announce their Adreno Turbo technology, which will most likely also offer improved performance in their Snapdragon chipsets. Following suite, Samsung is also said to be developing their own in-house GPU, and move away from their dependence on ARM’s Mali GPUs to power their Exynos chipsets. Recent reports suggest that the company may have hired Chien-Ping Lu, who has had considerable experience working on Nvidia’s nForce GPUs. He also worked with MediaTek on designing their own GPUs, a project which has since been cancelled.

MMDDJ also posted a tweet in which he claims that the Samsung’s long rumoured foldable smartphone will not be called the Galaxy X. It may instead be known as something different at launch. The foldable smartphone has been tipped to launch at MWC next year and may be priced at nearly $1,850, which is roughly equal to Rs 1,27,200. MMDDJ’s tweet implied that Samsung may use the Galaxy X brand for its gaming smartphones.
