Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra launched: Here’s what’s new over Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung has just introduced the Galaxy S26 Ultra at the Unpacked 2026 event. The device features tons of upgrades, including better performance, design, camera and of course, Galaxy AI features. The company has announced Gemini and Perplexity support for the device with a new capable Bixby. The device retains the S Pen, gets a slew of AI upgrades, including the creator studio, audio eraser support, enhanced document scanner and agentic AI support. Here are the top upgrades of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra measures 163.6 x 78.1 x 7.9mm and weighs 214g, making it marginally slimmer and lighter than the S25 Ultra (162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2mm, 218g). Both devices carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. While the S25 Ultra introduced a titanium frame and flatter ergonomic edges, the S26 Ultra is the slimmest ever Ultra device so far, with 7.9mm thickness.

Both devices get a 6.9-inch QHD+ AMOLED panel with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The S26 Ultra uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with Vision Booster. The screen size is unchanged, but the newer model maintains a 6.7-inch effective viewing area due to curved corners.

The S26 Ultra runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, an upgrade from the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip inside the S25 Ultra. RAM and storage configurations remain similar, topping out at 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra both offer a 200MP primary sensor, but the newer model widens the aperture to f/1.4 from f/1.7, meaning improved low-light photography and better subject separation.

On the zoom front, both devices offer a dual-telephoto setup. The S26 Ultra pairs a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and up to 10x optical-quality zoom, along with a dedicated 10MP 3x optical lens. The S25 Ultra, meanwhile, features a 10MP 3x telephoto and a 50MP 5x periscope lens. For ultra-wide shots, both phones use a 50MP sensor with an f/1.9 aperture. And for selfies, both devices offer a 12MP front camera.

Both the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra offer a 5,000 mAh battery. However, the change lies in the charging speed. The S26 Ultra offers 60W wired charging, promising up to 75 percent charge in around 30 minutes. It also offers wireless and reverse wireless charging. On the other hand, the S25 Ultra supports 45W wired charging, along with 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra gets upgraded Photo Assist, which allows users to edit images using natural language prompts. It also offers Creative Studio, which brings sketches and prompts into a single workspace for generating stickers, wallpapers and invitations. The Document Scan now removes distortions and compiles pages into a PDF.

Features such as Now Nudge and Now Brief deliver contextual suggestions and reminders, while Circle to Search recognises multiple objects simultaneously. An enhanced Bixby, alongside Gemini and Perplexity integration, supports multi-step voice commands. On the security front, Samsung is introducing pixel-level Privacy Display on the Ultra, AI-powered Call Screening, Privacy Alerts, Private Album and post-quantum cryptography-backed Knox protections, alongside seven years of security updates.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is priced at Rs 1,39,999 in the Indian market for the 12GB and 256GB storage. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was introduced at around Rs 129,999 for the base trim.
