Qualcomm Snapdragon Night event set for May 20: Launch of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 expected

Qualcomm has scheduled the Snapdragon Night event for May 20, 2022.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 are the new Qualcomm processors expected at May 20 event.

The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is fabbed on the TSMC process.

Qualcomm has an event booked for May 20, 2022, in China. It is dubbed the Snapdragon Night. The announcement was made through the Chinese microblogging site Weibo. Qualcomm President and CEO, Cristiano Amon has called it a big day for the Snapdragon Insiders. The company has said that it will be bringing out a new Snapdragon platform on that day and we suspect the debutants to be Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ Specs (Expected)

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ (SM8475) is rumored to be based on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. Its setup could include 1x Cortex X2 prime core (clocked at 2.99GHz), 3x Cortex A710 Performance cores, and 4x Cortex A510 efficiency cores. The rumor has it you could get about 10% performance gains on the CPU front and some speed bump in graphics rendering.

Some of the likely early adopters of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus are the Motorola Frontier 22, OnePlus 10 Ultra, Xiaomi 12 Ultra, etc and these may see the daylight in H2, 2022.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Specs (Expected)

Following the new nomenclature, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is expected to be the upcoming midrange offering from the brand. It could be equipped with 4x A710 performance cores running at 2.36GHz and 4x A510 efficiency cores with 1.8GHz frequency. The graphics could be from an Adreno 662 GPU.

The first Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 phone could be the OPPO Reno 8 which will debut on May 23rd. 

So ahead of that there’s the May 20 Qualcomm event. We’ll see what the chipmaker has in store for us on the so-called Snapdragon Night.
