Apple’s iPhone 15 was the best-selling smartphone globally in 2024, according to Counterpoint Research. While Samsung made a strong impact on the list, Apple continued its dominance, securing the top three spots. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro followed the base iPhone 15, ranking second and third, respectively.
Apple maintained its position as the leading smartphone brand, with no other companies besides Samsung making it to the global top 10 list. This marks the third consecutive year that Apple and Samsung have completely dominated the best-selling smartphones ranking.
The iPhone 15’s success was driven by strong demand in key markets like the US and China, which together accounted for nearly half of its total global sales. Additionally, the increasing preference for Pro models helped Apple reach a major milestone—Pro variants made up more than half of all iPhone sales for the first time ever.

Attractive financing options and trade-in offers played a crucial role in making premium iPhones more accessible, particularly in emerging markets. Thanks to this trend, Apple entered India’s top five smartphone brands list in Q4 2024 for the first time ever.
Samsung had a notable presence in 2024, securing four spots in the top 10, an improvement from three in 2023. One of its biggest achievements was the return of the Galaxy S series to the best-selling list for the first time since 2018, according to the report. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, Samsung’s flagship device, generated strong interest due to its GenAI-powered features like chat assist, circle to search, and live translation.

Another key performer was the Galaxy A15 series, which outperformed its predecessor, the Galaxy A14. North America saw the highest growth in A15 sales.
One of the biggest trends in 2024 was the increasing popularity of GenAI-capable smartphones. Five out of the top 10 best-selling smartphones featured GenAI technology. GenAI-capable smartphones are expected to mark an increased presence in the 2025 list.
