Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie update delayed in India due to issues with VoLTE: HMD Global CPO

It looks like Nokia 8 users in India will have to wait a little bit longer for the Android 9 Pie update. To recall, the update was supposed to roll out back in December. However, that wasn’t the case. The Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, Juho Sarvikas explained  via a tweet that the reason for the delay is due to issues with VoLTE in India. As such, they are working on a new software version for India. However, Sarvikas did not mention when the update will roll out. He did say that it will include new features that users have been “asking for”. 

It should be noted that the Pie update has rolled out to almost all devices in Nokia’s lineup of smartphones. All devices offered by the company (except for the Nokia 1) are a part of the Android One program and as such, are supposed to be among the first to get the new updates. 

To recall, the Nokia 8 was one of the first devices under HMD Global and served as the flagship smartphone for the first wave of devices. It sports a 5.3-inch QHD display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with 4GB RAM. In terms of optics. It features two 13MP units at the back with Zeiss lenses. There is also a 13MP sensor on the front. 

While Nokia did launch a successor to the Nokia 8 in the form of the Nokia 8.1, the company is reportedly close to launching a new flagship device called the Nokia 9 PureView. The smartphone is tipped to features a penta-rear camera setup and is expected to be unveiled sometime this month. The phone may feature a 5.99-inch PureDisplay panel with a 2K resolution an HDR10 compliance. It is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
