Windows Phone is dead. Well, it has been dead for over a year now, but Microsoft never really said it explicitly. Hence, Joe Belfiore’s recent tweets are the closest we’ve come to an admission from the company. Belfiore recently tweeted that while Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 Mobile, no new feature additions or upgrades are expected in the near future. “Of course we'll continue to support the platform.. bug fixes, security updates, etc. But building new features/hw aren't the focus,” Belfiore wrote.

Talking about the hamstrung app ecosystem on Windows Mobile, Belfiore said Microsoft has tried, in vain, to incentivize app developers, but volume of users on the platform is too low for companies to make investments.

Microsoft killed its phones business last year, resulting in massive downsizing within the company. Since then, the company has taken a different approach, moving to cloud-first services. The company unveiled devices like the Surface Laptop and Surface Book, that take advantage of Microsoft’s PC ecosystem.
A Surface Phone has been rumoured in the past, but it seems Microsoft isn’t working on anything of the sort just yet.
