Is Apple really planning to launch iPhone Ultra? Here is what iOS 27’s early build suggest

HIGHLIGHTS

iOS 27 reportedly includes features that could better support larger and foldable displays.

macOS 27 introduces interface changes that some observers believe are designed with touch input in mind.

The software clues add to ongoing rumours about Apple's long-awaited foldable iPhone projects.

Apple seems to finally be getting on track with its software. As shown at the WWDC 2026, the new AI features look cool, AI assistant Siri will make a shift towards agentic AI and the interface will also be improved. But along with all these upgrades, the iOS 27 early builds have also suggested what Apple fans are waiting for years.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, early references spotted in iOS 27 and macOS 27 hint that Apple may be preparing its software ecosystem for devices with entirely new form factors. While the company has not confirmed any plans of introducing a new foldable or what we call iPhone Ultra, here is what we know about it.

iOS 27 hints at larger and flexible-screen iPhones

As per the reports, the company has reportedly updated several interface elements to better support larger display layouts. For instance, iPhone Mirroring on Mac now accommodates screen dimensions that go beyond the size of current iPhone models.

The company has also reportedly been encouraging developers to make more apps adaptable to different screen sizes and orientations. While it is presented as a software improvement, the leaks suggest it will be useful for devices with foldable displays.

Reports also point to references within iOS 27 beta code that appear to support hardware featuring multiple displays and software behaviour that changes depending on how a device is opened or positioned. These are characteristics commonly associated with foldable smartphones.

It is not something we have not heard of before. Many tipsters, including Majin Bu, Ice Universe and Ming Chi Kuo have already confirmed that the device will debut this year along with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. They have also stated that the device may feature a book-style design with a compact outer screen and a larger internal display with almost a creaseless experience.

iPhone Ultra price:

If all these leaks and reports are believed to be true, the iPhone Ultra will cost over Rs 2 lakh in India. Again, these are just early predictions and we may have to wait for a few more months to know more.
