Google mocks Apple as iPhone 17 leaks reveal Pixel-inspired design

In a new video of its #BestPhonesForever series, Google brought back its Pixel and iPhone characters, portrayed as best friends hosting a podcast.

The episode playfully discussed all the online buzz surrounding the leaked iPhone 17 design.

At one point in the ad, a news headline flashed on the screen that read: “iPhone 17 Leaks Look A Lot Like Google Pixel.”

Apple might be planning a big design change for its next iPhone, but Google isn’t letting it go unnoticed. Leaked images of the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have started making waves online. Instead of the traditional vertical or square-shaped camera layout we’ve seen in iPhones, the leaks show a new horizontal camera bar stretching across the back of the phone. Google’s Pixel phones have had a similar design for years. Naturally, many fans online were quick to point out the resemblance.

Google didn’t waste any time joining in on the fun. In a new video of its humorous #BestPhonesForever series, Google brought back its Pixel and iPhone characters, portrayed as best friends hosting a podcast. At one point in the ad, a news headline flashed on the screen that read: “iPhone 17 Leaks Look A Lot Like Google Pixel.” To this, the iPhone character says, “Can you imagine me doing the same thing you did first, years later?” 

The ad also cleverly highlighted how Google was the first to bring out features like Night Sight for better low-light photos and Magic Eraser to remove unwanted things from images. The ad also reminded how Pixel phones had home screen widgets from the start, while iPhone only adopted them years later.

It wrapped up with a bit of a jab, as the Pixel phone said, “these rumours are just rumours.” The iPhone then echoed the same line word for word, prompting a playful “Oh, come on!” response from the Pixel.

Meanwhile, all eyes are on Google’s upcoming event, Google I/O, set for May 20–21. Many expect the tech giant to unveil its next smartphone lineup, the Pixel 10 series.
