Right when we are waiting for the Pixel 11 series launch, Google may have accidentally revealed that the Pixel 11a is already in development. The new report claims the latest beta version of Google Phone app includes references to internal codenames believed to belong to the upcoming Pixel 11 lineup, including one that has previously been linked to Pixel 11a. However, the codename appearance does not confirm the product but here is what we know.
According to a report by Android Authority, the latest beta version of the Google Phone app (version 230.0.946661649-publicbeta-pixel) contains a list of internal codenames associated with future Pixel devices.
The app reportedly references cubs, grizzly, kodiak, and yogi, which are believed to correspond to the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, respectively. These codenames had surfaced in previous reports, but the latest finding comes directly from Google’s own software.

Along with this, the beta also included the codename formosan, which has earlier been associated with the Pixel 11a. The codename was first mentioned in a report earlier this year, but its appearance inside a first party Google app offers fresh evidence that the next A series handset is under active development.
The report also stated that codenames do not guarantee that the product will launch because Google can rename or cancel it during development. However, if true, Google may stick to its usual launch strategy, which would place the Pixel 11a around March 2027.
It should also be noted that the hardware specifications or software features for the Pixel 11a are not revealed yet. The readers are advised to take these updates with a pinch of salt.
