From India to the US, here is how long people need to work to buy an iPhone 17 Pro Max

HIGHLIGHTS

Countries like Luxembourg and Switzerland need just 3 days of work to buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max

India ranks last globally, requiring around 160 working days or 8 months

The US, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, and Norway sit at just four workdays

The Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,49,900 for the base 256GB model in the Indian markets. It is for sure an expensive device, but did you know that the number looks very different depending on which country you’re earning money in? If you’re in Switzerland, the number looks much different from the number seen in India. Honestly, the results reveal just how unequal access to the same device really is. So here is how long people would need to work in different 33 countries to buy an iPhone 17 Pro. Let’s take a look.

Where the iPhone is more accessible

Let’s first look at the countries where the iPhone 17 Pro Max is more of an expensive purchase rather than an unreachable one. In countries like Luxembourg and Switzerland, people would need to work just three days to afford Apple’s flagship. This is possible because of the higher average salaries, stable consumer electronics pricing, and relatively low import costs.

Meanwhile, in the US, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, four workdays would be required. And countries like Germany, Canada, Australia, Finland, Austria, and Ireland are not far behind at just five full workdays required to afford the iPhone.

Where it gets difficult

Moving over to the countries where it is relatively tougher to purchase the flagship, these include the likes of Portugal, where an average worker must put in 24 days to get the phone. Hungary’s figure is quite similar, sitting at around 27 days. It jumps to double in Malaysia, where the phone costs the equivalent of 45 working days, and quietly rises to 61 working days in Thailand.

Surprisingly, India is much lower, as it would require around 160 working days to purchase the iPhone 17 Pro Max here. Which, when converted to months, would roughly translate to around eight months of a standard five-day work week. Because of the lower average salary, people here need to work much longer than in other countries to afford an iPhone.
