Apple has just introduced the iPhone 18 Pro Max in the global market. The device comes with a new A20 Pro chipset, Siri AI and new colour options. It also features an upgraded camera system and improved heat dissipation. The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900 in India for the 256GB model. Apple will begin accepting pre-orders on September 12, with the phone scheduled to go on sale from September 18. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, meanwhile, launched at a higher price tier but is currently listed at around Rs 1,30,999 across major retail channels.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2nm process. It features a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and 32-core Neural Engine, while a larger vapour chamber is designed to keep temperatures under control during demanding workloads. The phone comes with 12GB RAM and storage options going up to 2TB.
Samsung uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, built on a 3nm process and clocked at up to 4.74GHz. The 256GB and 512GB versions have 12GB RAM, while the 1TB model gets 16GB. The Galaxy S26 Ultra runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5 and is promised seven years of software updates.
Both flagships feature 6.9-inch displays with adaptive 120Hz refresh rates. Apple’s Super Retina XDR OLED panel has a 1320×2868 resolution, while Samsung offers a sharper QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 3120×1440 resolution.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max uses a Grade 5 titanium frame with Ceramic Shield glass and gets a smaller Dynamic Island. Samsung uses Armour Aluminium 3, Gorilla Glass Armour 2 on the front and Victus 2 at the rear.
Samsung’s biggest display addition is its hardware-based Privacy Display, which reduces what people sitting beside the user can see on the screen. Both phones are IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.
Apple has introduced a 48MP main camera with a mechanical variable aperture, allowing the lens to physically adjust the amount of light entering the sensor. It is paired with a 48MP ultra-wide camera and a telephoto system. The front camera is an 18MP Centre Stage sensor with autofocus.
Samsung takes a different approach, using a 200MP primary camera with a wider f/1.4 aperture. It is accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP 3x telephoto and a 50MP 5x periscope camera capable of up to 100x Space Zoom. A 12MP autofocus selfie camera handles front-facing shots.
Apple claims the iPhone 18 Pro Max delivers up to 45 hours of video playback, making battery endurance one of its biggest upgrades. It also supports faster wired charging and 50% wireless charging in around 30 minutes with compatible MagSafe or Qi2 chargers.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery rated for up to 31 hours of video playback. Samsung also offers 60W wired charging and 25W Qi2 wireless charging.
On paper, the iPhone 18 Pro Max stands out for its new processor, variable-aperture camera and claimed battery endurance. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, however, offers a sharper display, more flexible zoom hardware, faster charging and a considerably lower current retail price in India.
