Apple’s brand-new MacBook Pro, powered by the next-gen M5 chip, is easily one of the most exciting launches of the season. The laptop promises a faster performance, better efficiency, and even longer battery life. But there’s one question that’s unexpectedly got buyers talking: does it still come with a charger in the box or will people have to shell out a couple thousands more to buy one?
If you’ve been scrolling through social media or reading headlines, you’ve probably seen the buzz. Apple has officially stopped bundling a power adapter with the 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 in several European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and Norway. That means customers there will only find the laptop and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable in the box – no charging brick included. So what about India? Will you still get the charger here?

According to Apple’s regional product pages, buyers in Europe will need to purchase the 70W USB-C Power Adapter separately for around £59 (roughly ₹6,000). Apple says the move is part of its broader environmental initiative to reduce packaging waste and encourage users to reuse existing adapters. The company has been taking similar steps since 2020, when it first removed chargers from iPhone boxes.
In contrast, customers in India will continue to receive the full charging setup, both the power adapter and the MagSafe cable, inside the box. This regional difference is largely driven by Europe’s evolving sustainability laws. The European Union has been pushing for standardised charging ports and reduced electronic waste, and Apple’s packaging change aligns perfectly with those goals.
If you’re planning to get the new M5 MacBook Pro in India, you can relax as your charger isn’t going anywhere. Indian retail boxes will continue to include the 70W (or higher, depending on the model) USB-C Power Adapter and a MagSafe 3 cable, so you can start using your new laptop straight out of the box. Apple’s official website also confirms that the charger will indeed be included in the box.
Apple’s regional policies often differ based on local regulations and consumer expectations, and this is a prime example. India, for now, doesn’t have strict mandates around packaging or electronic waste on the same scale as the EU, which gives Apple more flexibility.
So while Europeans adjust to lighter boxes, Indian MacBook fans can still unbox the full experience – a stunning new M5-powered laptop, that iconic MagSafe cable, and yes, a proper Apple charger to go with it.
