AC and monsoon are a love-hate relationship, as while the weather brings relief from heat, it also brings stickiness and humid air that makes rooms feel warm even when the temperature drops. As soon as the season starts, people start looking to buy a new AC. However, they get confused between the three obvious choices, notably the split, portable, and window AC. While each model is built to cool a space, they function differently; the power consumption varies, and the price of the devices is also different. The split AC cools more quickly and efficiently because its compressor is kept outside of your room. It makes it quieter than other air conditioners, which makes it suitable for your bedroom. The window AC cools well.
However, it produces more noise because the whole machine occupies one place and includes the compressor. As for portable ACs, they are the worst in terms of cooling capacity among all three types, as they have a small compressor and can only cool a small space.

If you look at electricity use on a monthly basis, the difference between these three ACs becomes clear. A 1.5-ton split AC running for 8 hours a day can cost you between Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,500 per month, especially when it comes to a 5-star rated one. The cost of using a window AC for 8 hours a day would be slightly higher and fall somewhere between Rs 2,200 and Rs 3,000 per month.
Portable ACs are the most expensive to run every month, often pushing bills to Rs 2,800 to Rs 3,800, because they use more power to achieve the same cooling, especially in humid monsoon conditions.

Installation of a split AC requires a professional, and it can cost you anywhere between Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,000. Along with that, servicing also costs more because it has an indoor unit and an outdoor unit that require separate attention.
Whereas a window AC is less complicated, requires drilling of a hole in the wall and its installation cost is also less than Rs 1,000. Portable ACs do not require any installation at all and can be easily shifted from one place to another.
