Instant messaging app WhatsApp introduces new enhancements for users regularly. In a recent update, the platform is now introducing four new enhancements for group chats. These include status for group members, pinning a WhatsApp message in a group for a longer duration, sending the history of conversations to new joinees and a “Mentions and replies” filter. For a detailed look, here are more details about the four new enhancements the company announced.
WhatsApp is introducing message pinning for an indefinite period within groups. This can help group members keep track of important messages from the top window. However, editing the time limit will be available.
While WhatsApp allowed users to send message history to new members earlier using a toggle, the company is now introducing a feature to tap a member’s name in chat to send recent messages. “Now you can also send someone recent messages retroactively after they’ve joined a group just by tapping their name in the chat,” WhatsApp said.
The instant messaging app notes in its blog post that it will introduce group status so that members can share “casual updates” in a group. All members can view, react and add it as their own status (similar to regular WhatsApp status), and these disappear within 24 hours.
WhatsApp is also getting a new chat filter that displays unread group chats in which a user was mentioned or received a reply. This will also apply to @all messages and be available within the “Mentions and replies” tab.
Besides these four changes, the company also highlighted the currently available features such as replying privately to group conversations, multiple answers in polls and member tags. However, note the three features are already available on the platform for a while now.
