Telegram down: Telegram users in India faced a sudden disruption as the popular messaging app went down for many people. The problem started around midday, and the issue started gaining traction on the outages reported online. There were problems with sending messages, opening chats, and using the app in general. This is not a very common problem with the Telegram app, so the increase in the number of people complaining about the outages caused some concern among the regular users of the app. Some people were trying to check if the problem was experienced by others through social media. Although some people were able to access some parts of the app, others were unable to access the app altogether.
According to Downdetector, an online platform that provides real-time information about service disruptions, the number of complaints had reached 424 at the time of writing, which was a significant jump from the normal baseline of zero. The graph shows that the issue remained almost flat earlier in the day before rising suddenly within a short period.
The problem was reported across several parts of India. Major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata showed higher activity on the outage heatmap. This means the problem was not just in one area but happened all over the country.
Users faced various issues while using the cloud-based messaging app. Approximately 62 per cent of the users experienced issues with the app itself, meaning it was not opening or loading properly. On the other hand, 28 per cent of the users experienced issues with messaging, meaning their messages were not sent or received. Additionally, 7 percent of the users experienced issues with logging in, meaning they could not access their accounts.
Telegram is yet to say anything about the exact cause of the outage. However, the common cause of such outages is usually the servers. The servers might be experiencing high loads.
