Snap introduced the fifth-generation Spectacles, its advanced see-through AR glasses, to India for the first time at the second annual India AR Day event in Mumbai. Along with this, the tech giant shared its Augmented Reality (AR) vision for the impact on creativity, culture, and technology.
Snap Spectacles 5 aims to provide an immersive experience. These AR glasses have a see-through display and an integrated dimmer for indoor and outdoor use. The Spectacles, which are powered by Snap OS, an operating system specifically designed for augmented reality, allow users to interact with digital overlays in real-world settings using only their voice and gestures.
The Spectacles 5 aims to incorporate augmented reality into everyday life while preserving in-person interactions. Snap aims to transform the way people consume digital content in real time, whether through gaming, social media, or practical applications.
Meanwhile, the company has stated that it is driving the expansion of the AR creator ecosystem, encouraging innovation and monetization opportunities for developers. With more than 85% of Snapchat users in India using AR Lenses to connect during cultural events and festivals, the platform has evolved into a hub for creative expression. India has emerged as a key contributor to Snapchat’s AR innovation, with 375,000+ global creators creating over 4 million AR Lenses that have been viewed trillions of times worldwide.
In addition, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities have adopted AR. The company has held over 120 training sessions in cities such as Surat, Coimbatore, and Rajkot, providing aspiring creators with hands-on experience. Furthermore, collaborations with educational institutions such as K.J. Somaiya, Pearl Academy, and Loyola College provide students with critical digital and AR development skills.
The India Lens Awards recognized top AR creators in various categories, while brands such as Nykaa, Coca-Cola, and Amazon Prime Video use AR-powered experiences to increase engagement.
