Sharp launches window AC with built-in air purification in India: What makes it different

HIGHLIGHTS

The Sharp Window AC is using Plasmacluster technology for neutralising bacteria, allergens and odours.

The inverter model starts at Rs 39,990.

The inverter model comes with 10-year warranty for the compressor and 5-years warranty for the product.

Sharp has launched a new range of window air conditioners in India, including a model that is claimed to be the country’s first window AC with active air purification. Select models in the lineup use the company’s Plasmacluster ion technology, which releases positive and negative ions to neutralise bacteria, allergens, and odours. So, the pitch is that you get both cooling and clean air. While there’s already similar tech in split ACs, now Sharp is bringing it to the window type. Here are the features and other details of these ACs.

Price and availability

The new window AC range is now available across retail stores and online platforms in India:

  • Ryohu-FS (fixed speed): starts at Rs 34,490
  • Ryohu (inverter, top throw): starts at Rs 39,990

The company is offering a 10-year warranty on the compressor in inverter models. You also get a 5-year comprehensive warranty on both ranges.

Specifications and features

Ryohu Inverter Window AC (Top Throw)

  • Capacity: 1.45 ton (5100W)
  • Energy ratings: 3-star, 5-star
  • Compressor: Twin rotary inverter
  • Cooling: Up to 52°C ambient temperature
  • Airflow: Coanda airflow, 4-way auto swing (for distributing cool air more evenly)
  • Modes: Auto, cool, dry, fan
  • Convertible mode: 4-in-1 adjustable capacity
  • UI Touch panel with LED indicators
  • Additional: Auto-restart, energy-saving mode
  • Air purification: Select models include Plasmacluster

The inverter compressor adjusts power/speed based on room temperature, which can reduce electricity usage over time. So, you get power efficiency benefits and a stable performance.

Meanwhile, the convertible mode further allows you to control cooling depending on the requirement, which can be useful in Indian households where usage varies through the day.

The key highlight is Plasmacluster air purification in a window AC form factor. Traditionally, you had to buy a separate air purifier to address indoor air quality. Now, this tech comes in the AC itself. So, you could save money, space, etc.

If you are concerned about ozone generation, Sharp’s Plasmacluster ion technology is said to produce only 0.01 PPM of ozone, which is far less than recommended safety limits set by OSHA, FDA and NIOSH. Moreover, another concern could be whether the air flow is restrained by the purification filter, and our understanding is that the ion-based purification doesn’t block air like the dense HEPA filters. That said, real-world effectiveness and air cleaning performance can only be judged after testing.

Ryohu-FS Fixed Speed Window AC

  • Capacity: 1.41 ton to 1.70 ton (4950W to 5975W)
  • Energy ratings: 2-star, 3-star
  • Cooling: Up to 52°C ambient temperature
  • Air throw: Up to 18 metres
  • Modes: Auto, cool, dry, fan
  • Build: 100% copper condenser, blue fin anti-corrosion coating
  • Refrigerant: R32
  • Filters: Dust filters

The fixed-speed models are aimed at users prioritising upfront cost over long-term efficiency. They offer stronger airflow and simpler operation, suited for larger rooms or harsher climates.

Across both series, Sharp includes its ‘Japan 7 Shields’ durability framework, which focuses on protection against voltage fluctuations, corrosion, and long-term wear.

If you are considering a window AC because of space and installation constraints, the Sharp models bring air purification, too. So now ACs, even the window category, are being repositioned with more advanced capabilities.
