Order food by speaking? Swiggy teams up with Razorpay and Sarvam to test AI-powered commerce

HIGHLIGHTS

Users can discover, order and complete payments through a single AI-powered voice interaction.

Swiggy will be among the first to roll out the feature via Sarvam’s chat-based platform.

The system enables businesses and developers to build multilingual AI agents for conversational shopping experiences.

Razorpay has announced a partnership with Sarvam AI to develop a voice-first conversational commerce experience. This partnership aims to allow users to discover products, place orders and complete payments via natural voice conversations with AI assistants in multiple Indian languages.

Initially, Swiggy will integrate this technology with Sarvam’s chat-based platform, giving users the option to order food by speaking directly to an AI assistant. Its system is designed to handle the full transaction flow, from understanding user intent to processing payments, within a single interaction.

Pratyush Kumar, CEO & Co-founder, Sarvam AI, said, “We are very excited to announce our partnership with Razorpay, which enables the transition from conversation to checkout. As more real-world workflows move into conversational interfaces, the next step is enabling those conversations to actually complete actions.”

How it works

According to a press release shared by the brand, the system allows users to interact with an AI assistant via voice commands in their preferred language. The assistant interprets the request, suggests relevant products or services and proceeds to place the order on behalf of the user. Once it gets confirmed, the payment is processed within the same conversation using the integrated payment infrastructure, removing the need to switch between apps or interfaces.

This is also for the businesses, which means the company can also embed similar conversational capabilities into their own platforms. So far, the tech includes voice-enabled shopping experiences where users can search for products and complete purchases without going to payment apps.

The developers will also be able to build AI-driven agents capable of handling customer interactions in regional languages.
