OpenAI has unveiled ‘Chats for Students in India’ on October 27, to help college students make the most of ChatGPT for studying, skill-building, and everyday campus life. Under this initiative, the AI platform features over 50 real-world prompts inspired by how students at leading Indian institutions such as IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), and Delhi Technical Campus are already using ChatGPT.
This initiative comes shortly after OpenAI launched ChatGPT’s ‘Study Mode’ in India. According to Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends Report (2025), India now contributes 13.5% of global ChatGPT mobile app users, the highest share among all countries.
“ChatGPT is now one of the largest learning platforms on the planet. Over 50% of our users in India are under 24, so students form a major audience,” said Leah Belsky, VP of Education at OpenAI, during the company’s India-first learning accelerator launch in August.
From creating study schedules and practice quizzes to exploring career paths and even finding hostel cooking tips, here are all the top 5 prompts shared by OpenAI for students.
The ‘Chats for Students in India’ webpage compiles sample prompts across categories such as exam prep, project work, skill development, decision-making, and career research. Each example is designed to help students apply AI practically in their academic journey.
