Anshita Saini is an Indian-origin growth engineer at OpenAI. She achieved a major milestone in her career as a feature she developed for ChatGPT was highlighted in TechCrunch. The innovative feature allows users to assign traits like “chatty” or “Gen Z” to the AI chatbot. It adds a personal touch to the entire experience. However, it was her Indian mother’s witty response that made it to the headlines and went viral on social media. A lot of netizens found it funny and relatable too. Here’s what happened.
After learning about her achievement, that she has been recognised by TechCrunch, she sent a text message to her mother in excitement with the article link. She said, “This feature I built made it onto TechCrunch,” she wrote, proud of her accomplishment. However, her mother’s response shifted the conversation in an unexpected direction. “Nice! Great! Inspirational,” her mother replied. But before leaving the chat, she quickly asked, “Did you have nuts and fruits today though?”
Anshita found this conversation pretty funny and took a screenshot and shared it on X (formerly Twitter). She captioned it, “Cannot catch a break.” And since this is just how all of our moms react, the post quickly went viral on X. It got over 100,000 views in just a few hours.
Many social media users found the interaction relatable, with one commenting, “Indian moms for the win,” and another writing, “Haha, so relatable.” This comment correctly summed up the whole emotion- “Only an Indian mom could seamlessly shift from tech achievements to health checks.”
For our Indian families, no matter how old we grow, and what achievements we make, we will still be the small kids who need constant reminders to take care of themselves. Which is kind of cute, isn’t it?
