NVIDIA and Infosys announce collaboration

Updated on 13-Nov-2009

NVIDIA and Infosys Technologies have announced a partnership and have set up a new “Infosys-NVIDIA Technology Center” at the Infosys campus at Electronic City in Bangalore. The partnership aims to promote the development of CUDA enabled software.

CUDA for those who don’t know is a new technology architecture which has been adopted in Nvidia graphics cards from quite some time which enables applications to utilize the computers graphics processors for complex computation tasks, thereby freeing the CPU for other tasks. This way, the graphics processor – which is mostly only used while playing games or rendering 3D content – is also more efficiently utilized. This is of most benefit to applications which involve large amounts of data and computation.

The partnership is expected to accelerate the development process and performance of Infosys’ applications such as those for Healthcare and Life Sciences, e-Governance, Finance and Medical Sciences. This will also benefit them in updating existing client application to use the NVIDIA CUDA platform. CUDA enabled application stand to work faster and save on hardware costs and power consumption by making more efficient utilization of the hardware.

Another facet of this partnership is to facilitate development of application which increase throughput by utilizing grid computing and parallel computing, an area where they hope Infosys’ experience and IP will come to good use.
