CMF, the budget focused brand of London based smartphone maker Nothing, has formally spun itself as a separate legal entity in India. The brand has been registered as the CMF India Private Limited, with official incorporation completed on December 23, 2025. This comes months after the brand announced that it will be establishing the operations, R&D, and manufacturing in the country and investing $100 million JV with Optiemus.
Confirming the development on X, Nothing co-founder and India President Akis Evangelidis highlighted India’s expanding role in the global consumer electronics ecosystem. Citing Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Evangelidis pointed to the country’s rapid manufacturing growth under the Make in India initiative, including Apple’s reported $50 billion worth of smartphone shipments in 2025.
“India is increasingly positioning itself at the forefront of the global consumer tech ecosystem, driven by years of sustained progress and ambition. The work done has been remarkable. CMF has an important role to play in that journey and we’re happy to share that it is now a separate, legally incorporated entity in India,” he added.
“Following our $100M manufacturing joint venture with Optiemus, this marks another major milestone in establishing CMF as a subsidiary headquartered in India – on a path to building the country’s first truly global consumer tech brand. Built from India, to the world,” he stated.

Vaishnaw in his post also stated that the electronic production has grown by six fold in the country over the past decade. He also mentioned that the exports have risen eight times, supported by dozens of new component manufacturing projects and large scale investments across categories such as laptops, servers and more.
According to the minister, four semiconductor fabrication plants are expected to begin commercial production this year, with the electronics sector now employing around 25 lakh people nationwide.
