Microsoft has just given a new look to the familiar Start Menu of Windows 11. As part of a new update, the redesigned version has started rolling out to users. The menu, as per reports, now looks cleaner, works faster, and feels more personal. The update (KB5067036) introduces a scrollable, customizable layout, a smarter “All apps” view, and better Phone Link integration for Android and iPhone users. The new look is part of Microsoft’s ongoing effort to make Windows more adaptive and user-friendly, especially as it prepares for the next phase of its AI-powered desktop experience.

The updated Start Menu replaces the old grid-style layout with a more flexible design. Users can now view all installed apps right from the main page, with options to switch between category view or the classic alphabetical list. The category mode automatically groups apps by type – think productivity, entertainment, or system tools – making it easier to find what you need without endless scrolling.
For those who prefer a minimal desktop, Microsoft now lets you hide sections like Pinned and Recommended entirely, keeping the menu distraction-free. The layout also adjusts based on screen size, showing more icons on larger monitors while staying compact on laptops or tablets.
Alongside the visual refresh, Microsoft is adding more polish to the overall experience. The update introduces smoother taskbar animations, a redesigned battery icon that always shows the percentage, and small quality-of-life tweaks that make multitasking feel snappier.
One standout feature is the upgraded Phone Link panel. It now sits neatly beside the Start Menu, letting users check messages, notifications, and even missed calls from their phone without switching screens. The integration works across Android and iOS devices, making it easier to stay connected from your PC.
The redesigned Start Menu is rolling out gradually, starting with users who’ve enabled the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” option in Windows Update. Everyone else can expect to receive it as part of next month’s Patch Tuesday release.
