Following closely on the heels of Amazon Web Services’ recent outage, Microsoft is now experiencing widespread downtime across several of its key platforms, including Azure, Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, and the Microsoft Store.
According to real-time tracking site DownDetector, reports of disruptions began flooding in late on October 29, leaving thousands of users worldwide unable to access critical services. The outage appears to have affected both enterprise and consumer platforms, causing cascading issues across connected applications such as Copilot, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The Microsoft Azure outage peaked with over 19,834 reports on Downdetector while Microsoft 365 recorded over 10,700 reports. Minecraft and Microsoft Store also recorded a massive number of outage reports. Xbox, Outlook, Entra, Copilot, Teams, Bing and other platforms also recorded a red graph with thousands of reports.
What’s particularly concerning is that major corporate clients such as Starbucks, Kroger, and Costco are also experiencing outage spikes, implying that the problem extends beyond Microsoft’s internal systems. Azure, the company’s flagship cloud computing service, powers not only Microsoft’s own ecosystem, but also the infrastructure of countless businesses around the world.
Microsoft has acknowledged the issue on its official Azure Status Page, stating that engineers are looking into issues with the Azure Portal and related services. “Customers may be having difficulty accessing the portal,” the company stated, adding that additional updates will be provided as the situation develops.
On the other hand, frustrated users have taken to social media platforms like X to report the disruptions. While most of them were irritated with the outage, some also found humour in the situation and brutally trolled Microsoft, Azure and other services.
