MediaTek Dimensity 8450 chipset announced, will bring faster speeds, AI smarts to upcoming premium phones

MediaTek has introduced its new Dimensity 8450 chipset at its India Dimensity Summit. The new chip is specifically designed to power the premium smartphones. The chip-maker has also confirmed that this new chip will first be seen on Oppo Reno 14 Pro, with another K series phone also expected to adopt it. Alongside the Dimensity 8450, the company showcased other chips from its 5G portfolio including solutions for flagship, mid-range, and entry-level smartphones.

MediaTek Dimensity 8450: Key technical highlights

The new Dimensity 8450 chipset comes with All Big Core CPU design, with eight Arm Cortex-A725 cores, and is paired with an Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU. As per the company, the chipset will deliver 30% faster performance than competing platforms with major focus on balanced performance and efficiency.

The chip, as per the company, includes the NPU 880 for AI processing and a MediaTek Agentic AI Engine (DAE), which supports leading generative AI models such as LLMs and SLMs. It also brings a multi-frame EIS engine for stabilized 4K60 HDR video and Imagiq 1080 ISP with in-sensor zoom support for camera and video.

For connectivity, the chip supports 5G-A through the 3CC Carrier Aggregation modem, with speeds up to 5.17Gbps, and WQHD+ display support up to 144Hz refresh rate and dual screens.

During the event, several mobile manufacturers including Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Tecno, Motorola and Samsung have showcased the existing smartphones using MediaTek’s Dimensity chipsets. Devices such as the OPPO Find X8 Pro, Vivo X200 Pro, Realme GT 7, and Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 were among those shown featuring Dimensity 9000, 9400, and 9400e chips.
