Instagram down: Thousands of users facing issues with login, posts and more

Instagram down: Meta-owned platform Instagram is currently facing a global outage, including in the United States. Outage tracking website Downdetector recorded a sudden spike in reports during the evening hours, with thousands of users saying they could not open the app, load their feeds, or log into their accounts. As the issues continued, many upset Instagram users headed to X (formerly known as Twitter) to report problems and look for updates. While some expressed frustration over the disruption, others took a lighter approach, sharing memes about the situation. Here’s everything we know about the Instagram outage for now.

Instagram down: United States reports

Downdetector recorded a big jump in outage reports in the US as the complaints went past 1,200 at one point. Around 51 per cent of the users said they faced issues with using the Instagram app on their smartphone, while the web version works fine.

Another 26 per cent reported issues with their feed and timeline as they were unable to refresh it, while about 12 per cent faced trouble connecting to the server.

Instagram down: India reports

The outage also affected users in India, though on a smaller scale than in the United States. Downdetector recorded around 117 reports during the peak. Among those, 41 per cent of users said the app itself was the main problem. Issues with the feed and timeline made up 29 per cent of complaints, while login problems accounted for around 23 per cent. Many users said they were having trouble getting into their accounts or moving between different sections of the platform.

User reactions on X

The users quickly turned to X to see if other people had the same problem. There was a lot of frustration and confusion expressed by many of them since Instagram wasn’t working for them.

One user wrote, ‘I think Instagram is down. ‘Don’t open right now!’ Another user simply asked, ‘Is Instagram down?’ as reports continued to rise on outage-tracking platforms.

Several users were particularly frustrated because they were trying to check the latest updates on the platform. One user posted, ‘Why is Instagram down when I’m trying to see new posts?’ reflecting the confusion experienced by many during the disruption.
