Smartphone maker OnePlus has issued a statement amid the growing speculation about the future, following reports that claimed the brand was being gradually dismantled within the parent company Oppo’s wider ecosystem. Now, the company has stressed that its India operations will continue as normal, even as the question persists around its global strategy and product roadmap.

The speculation started after a report by Android Headlines alleged that OnePlus is going through some internal scale-back. The report claimed that several planned devices have been cancelled, including the second-generation foldable OnePlus Open 2 and the compact flagship OnePlus 15s. The report also pointed to declining global smartphone shipments in 2024 and suggested that teams in markets such as the US and Europe have been reduced, with more decisions being centralised in China under Oppo’s leadership.

Amid the noise, OnePlus India leadership has moved to reassure fans and partners. In a statement issued to international media, the company said its business in India is operating as usual and dismissed reports of a shutdown or wind-down as false. However, OnePlus has not directly addressed claims around cancelled products or internal restructuring.

Taking to X, Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, stated, “I wanted to address some misinformation that has been circulating about OnePlus India and its operations. We’re operating as usual and will continue to do so.”

So far, the broader picture remains unclear. While Android Headlines framed the situation as a potential dismantling, a separate report from Android Central claims that OnePlus may instead be entering a more focused phase. As per that report, Oppo can be narrowing the brand’s portfolio to fewer flagship and mid-range devices, rather than exiting markets entirely. It also noted that OnePlus’ presence in North America has weakened in recent years, with phones sold mainly through unlocked channels and no major carrier partnerships.

India, however, seems to remain a key market. While one report claimed that retail challenges led to a drop in OnePlus’ premium segment share in 2024, Android Central described India as the brand’s largest market by volume and revenue.

For now, OnePlus maintains that India remains business as usual. Still, with conflicting reports and unanswered questions about its global roadmap, the brand’s long-term direction remains under close watch and we will bring you all the latest updates. Stay tuned to Digit.
