NPCI has expanded its UPI One World wallet service to international delegates.

This allows foreign travellers to conduct P2M transactions using UPI without an Indian bank account or a local mobile number.

Visitors can activate the wallet at Indira Gandhi International Airport or Bharat Mandapam with passport-based KYC.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has expanded its UPI One World wallet service to international delegates attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, enabling visitors from over 40 countries to make real-time digital payments during their stay. The pilot rollout, which runs from February 16 to 20, allows foreign travellers to conduct person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions using UPI without the need for an Indian bank account or a local mobile number.

How it works

The wallet can be accessed through authorised prepaid payment instrument (PPI) issuers at Indira Gandhi International Airport and the NPCI Pavilion in Hall 14 at Bharat Mandapam, where the summit is taking place. Users can download Transcorp’s CheqUPI app, complete KYC verification by entering passport and visa information, take a live selfie, generate a UPI ID, and set a UPI PIN within the app.

Users can add funds using international debit or credit cards, and then pay merchants across India by scanning standard UPI QR codes. The wallet allows you to load up to Rs 25,000 per transaction, with a monthly limit of two top-ups and a maximum of Rs 50,000. Any remaining balance can be refunded to the original funding source in accordance with foreign exchange guidelines.

Sohini Rajola, Executive Director – Growth at NPCI stated, “UPI is the world’s largest real‑time payment system. By extending the ‘UPI One World’ service to foreign guests at the India AI Impact Summit, we are providing a convenient way to experience India’s real‑time payments ecosystem and Made in India technology. This initiative also offers a glimpse into how smoother cross‑border payment systems can support a more connected global digital economy.”

The announcement coincides with continued growth for the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which processed a record 21.70 billion transactions worth approximately Rs 28.33 lakh crore in January 2026. By incorporating UPI One World into the summit experience, NPCI is presenting India’s Digital Public Infrastructure as a scalable and globally relevant payment model.
