BharatGen to unveil Param2 17B, a 17 billion parameter multilingual AI model supporting 22 Indian languages at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

The India-built model aims to power governance, healthcare, education, finance, and agriculture with local language AI tools.

Developed under the IndiaAI Mission, the system focuses on creating domestic AI infrastructure using largely Indian data.

BharatGen, a government-backed artificial intelligence initiative, will launch a 17 billion parameter multilingual model at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The model, which is known as the BharatGen Param2 17B, supports 22 Indian languages and has been built in India using largely Indian data. Officials describe it as a step toward building public digital infrastructure that reflects the country’s linguistic diversity. The release comes amid growing efforts to create domestic AI systems that can serve public services, businesses, and researchers without relying entirely on foreign platforms. The model is expected to go live during the five-day summit at Bharat Mandapam. The AI Impact Submit will run from February 16 to February 20, 2026.

According to BharatGen, the new system has been trained to understand and generate text across major Indic languages, with the aim of improving access to digital services. The model is designed for use in sectors such as governance, healthcare, education, finance, and agriculture. Demonstrations planned at the summit will show how language tools can be applied to everyday tasks in these fields.
