OpenAI has officially stepped into the browser wars with its brand-new ChatGPT Atlas AI browser, marking a major expansion beyond its popular ChatGPT and Sora platforms. The new browser aims to redefine how users search, browse, and interact with the web, all through seamless AI integration. Designed to make everyday browsing more intelligent and intuitive, Atlas blends ChatGPT’s conversational prowess with powerful automation tools.

At launch, ChatGPT Atlas is exclusive to Mac users. While anyone can download the browser for free, its standout Agent Mode, which automates tasks like booking appointments and making purchases, is available only to Pro, Plus, and Enterprise users.
OpenAI has confirmed that iOS, Android, and Windows versions are in development, but no official rollout date has been announced yet.
The ChatGPT Atlas browser comes with deep AI integration to make browsing faster, more contextual, and more personalised. Users can access ChatGPT directly from a sidebar while surfing, allowing them to draft emails, summarise articles, write code, or autofill forms without switching tabs. Atlas also comes with a personalised memory system that remembers user activity and preferences, enabling more intelligent recommendations and queries, such as “Show me the job listings I viewed last week.”

Additionally, Search is powered entirely by ChatGPT’s AI engine, rather than Google or Bing, and offers contextual tabs for web, images, videos, and news in a clean split-view layout. The browser’s new Agentic Mode takes things further, allowing ChatGPT to perform real-world actions such as booking reservations, comparing prices, or planning events autonomously. Furthermore, in-line text editing lets users refine or rewrite content directly within emails or documents, eliminating the need to copy and paste between tabs
